Just up the road from were I live and 2 miles from the town centre is the nature reserve, Healey Dell. This is an area rich in wildlife such as various types of birds, squirrels, Foxes and I have even seen Deer. The pics (top) were taken in February 2009 and the picture on the left is the main track heading from Whitworth towards Rochdale. This in actual fact, used to be were the railway track ran and the middle picture shows the viaduct that the track went over. The picture to the right shows the River Spodden, as it makes its way through Healey Dell. The bottom 3 pictures were taken in October 2009, of the Viaduct and of some old trees which had been carved into 'totem' poles. I don't know who did them, as their aren't many Red Indians in Rochdale, but they looked good!
The above 6 photographs were taken on the 6th January 2010. The Dell looks like a winter scene on a postcard due to the large amount of snow that had fallen on Rochdale over the last couple of days. Icicles have formed on 2 of the photos, on the rocks and on the viaduct. The river Spodden is still flowing despite the freezing weather and the viaduct is covered in snow. (Not surprisingly!) Unbelievably, as well as a nutter taking photo's (me!) in the last photo there is another nutter who is jogging on the snow and ice! At least he'll get rid of the Xmas weight. If he doesn't break something first!! |
