![]() Rochdale canal has been completely refurbished in the last 10 years and is now used regularly by barges travelling from Manchester to Yorkshire. However, travelling from Yorkshire to Manchester requires a police escort when they reach the Newton Heath area, and at weekends the barges go through in a convoy. Otherwise the barges are liable to attack from the 'underclass' of society! This photo was taken at the 'Slattocks Lock' in March 2009. |

Rochdale Memorial Gardens in the Town Centre. This is where the cenotaph is placed, and ceremonies remembering the people from Rochdale who died in various wars, are held here. The white building at the back is the main Post Office. |
