Rochdale-My Town

Below are some photographs of Rochdale Town Hall which I took in 2008, on a rare sunny day. The Town Hall was built in 1871, although the original clock tower was destroyed by fire in 1883 and rebuilt in 1887. The two Lions in the centre photo commemorate peace between our county of Lancashire and that county from over the hills, Yorkshire. The Lions are decorated with the two counties emblems. It is rumoured that Hitler had his eye on our Town hall but it is more likely that he was just after the enormous stained glass window (not shown,) which is on the south side. The Town Hall offers guided tours to the public and attracts visitors from all over the world. Rooms can also be hired out for conferences and functions, such as weddings.
