Rochdale-My Town

This is a walk myself and my son do every so often. Going onto Whitworth Road we take the path behind the Oxford Pub and eventually we end up on the moors, which lead to Whitworth. The views of Rochdale and Whitworth are stunning from up here and although it is a long walk, especially in the snow (Feb '09) it is well worth it. In the picture on the left you can see the motorway bridge that runs behind Hollingworth Lake. The middle photo is St Bartholomews church which was built in 1847 and is a grade 2 listed building. Although Whitworth is not actually in Rochdale (it comes under Rossendale) it is not far away, and lots of Rochdalians live here as it is quiet and also house prices are lower! The other photo shows the Red Lion pub in the square in Whitworth. If you look closely you can see a goat under the right hand pub windows. Indeed, goats are popular pets in Whitworth and money is saved on lawn mowers and strimmers by tethering the goat in the garden!
