Rochdale-My Town

Watergrove reservoir is about 3 miles from Rochdale centre, through Wardle village, which is just over halfway between Rochdale and Littleborough. The reservoir was created in the 1930's by flooding the village of Watergrove, and the ruins of the old village can sometimes be seen when the water is particularly low. Some of the stones from the village have been used to create the dry stone walls in the vicinity. There are some great walks around this area and there is a visitors centre and a sailing club. The photos above were taken in the evening of the 20th July 2009, the first two being of the 'res' and the last one looking towards Rochdale. You can see the town flats just to the left of the pylon.
